SUSTAINABILITY

Nature is life. Let’s look after our environment.

Our family are the owners of the land where the hotel is located. They come from a family of several generations of farmers and ranchers here, and right from the very start their project involved a building that was well-integrated into the landscape, with minimum impact on our surroundings.

The Hotel Resguard dels Vents was inaugurated in 2006. It is surrounded by meadows and forests, and it harmonises with the countryside. As a business we have always tried to maintain a high level of involvement in terms of environmental aspects. Since the hotel’s construction, we have followed both bioclimatic and energy-saving criteria. The guidelines of standards such as the ISO 14001 and EMAS have significantly influenced our management concepts.

The materials that were used in it construction, such as stone, pine and iron, are linked to the environment, and were all worked by craftsmen from the county of El Ripollès. We have had a modern, automated biomass boiler since 2013, which we use to heat our facilities, mainly the spa area, with hot, potable water and underfloor heating. This 100Kw boiler is fuelled by the wood chips that we purchase from nearby suppliers, taken from our own, nearby woods. The hotel’s first combustion system used propane gas, which we have kept as an alternative.

The hotel’s water comes from a nearby spring. The fresh water is channelled to a tank where it is in compliance with sanitary standards, while preserving its natural purity. We also have our own treatment plant and treat waste organically.

Local suppliers have top priority in the supply of all the produce we purchase, especially the food we use for cooking; our yoghurts, mató, sausages, bread and honey for example. Our meat is sourced from our own family, not to mention our seasonal vegetables, mushrooms and eggs.

We work today while looking ahead to tomorrow, so that we can keep moving forward in a sustainable way. This is how we foster the ideal of integration into our surroundings, while making a minimum impact possible. Our aim is to ensure that our clients’ stay with us is as pleasant as we can make it, while providing all the creature comforts and showing them the natural wealth of our wonderful local area.

The photograph shows a view of the «El Quinta» a meadow in Ventaiola. The photograph was taken in the 1970s, right where the hotel is located today. Joan Corcoy and his brother Eudald are in the foreground.
